Hello IAPP community,
Later today, I will take the keynote stage at Privacy. Security. Risk. 2024 to announce some exciting updates from the IAPP.
Earlier this month, the IAPP published the Organizational Digital Governance Report. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, this report described the "digital entropy" organizations are facing due to the overlaps, gaps and conflicts stemming from digital risk and regulation, as well as how they are responding by aligning oversight of privacy, AI governance, cybersecurity law and other areas of digital responsibility. To better serve our members and community working across these disciplines, the IAPP will be making some important changes to our organization.
Today, I am proud to announce the IAPP has: - Expanded our mission statement to better reflect the broadened membership we serve and the professional community at large. The updated mission statement reads:
"The IAPP is a not-for-profit association founded in 2000 with a mission to define, promote and improve the professions of privacy, AI governance and digital responsibility globally."
- Refreshed our brand to align with the broadened mission and membership. The IAPP will no longer be known as the "International Association of Privacy Professionals," but simply the "IAPP."
- Launched the Cybersecurity Law Center and appointed leading cybersecurity law, privacy and internet policy expert Jim Dempsey as its managing director.
Since the IAPP's inception, we have worked to provide the most up-to-date and relevant resources, education and networking opportunities to support our profession as it shifts and evolves. The launch of the Cybersecurity Law Center comes more than a year after the launch of IAPP's AI Governance Center, a further step in acknowledging the need to expand our efforts and offerings to reflect the multidisciplinary nature of our field and the needs of digital responsibility.
A recording of my speech will be available on our website later today.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing many of you at P.S.R.
With gratitude, | | J. Trevor Hughes IAPP CEO and President | | | |
