Steve Pate: Will FISMA, FedRAMP impact cloud security?
I can usually tell when a regulation has teeth when I start to hear multiple
customers asking about it. Interestingly, the Federal Information Security
Amendments Act of 2013, also known as HR 1163, isn't even in effect yet,
but people are already looking for ways to comply. While regulations aren't
usually the most intriguing reading, there are some interesting gems in the new
FISMA amendment.

Malware campaign strikes Asian, European governments
Trend Micro says it detected a targeted attack that sent malware-laden emails to
representatives of 16 European countries and some Asian governments.

Darlene Storm: Can you hear me now? Yeah, hacked Verizon device can nab your texts and photos too
Security researchers hacked a Verizon femtocell and turned it into a spying
device if an unlucky user is within 40 feet of the network extender. The device
is small, portable and "can pick up signals through most
walls." Their upcoming Def Con talk will show how any NSA
surveillance wannabes could eavesdrop on phone calls, text messages, photos sent
on an iPhone or Android smartphone.
