Is it possible to be both persecuted and in the majority? Windows users probably think so. After all, if a bad guy is unleashing nasty code into the computer ecosystem, then he's probably targeting Windows machines. Windows malware is so prevalent, in fact, that Mac users have often bragged that their computers were safe from attack. Not so fast, disciples of Steve Jobs. This month saw the first appearance of fake antivirus software that targets Macs. And no sooner had Apple patched that vulnerability than a similar, yet more effective bit of Mac malware--dubbed Mac Guard--emerged. Apple will squelch that attack as well, but a case-by-case approach to security rifts won't cut it over time. So welcome to our world, Apple brethren. If you haven't been paying attention, now it's time to take security seriously. Don't worry; you'll get used to it.
