We've had quite a few people asking me about follow limits lately. For those that don't know, twitter limits you to 2000 friends initially. That means you can only follow 2000 people when you start out.
In order to follow more people you need to get your own followers up to around 2000. When you do this you can then follow up to 10% more people than you have followers. Make sense..? That means that if you have 2100 followers you can follow up to 2310 people (2100 + 210). These follow limits have been in place for a long time already and were created by twitter to stop aggresssive mass-following.
It's one of the reasons we created twiends. We wanted to create a system where one could grow followers and friends at the same time, preventing follow limits from becoming an issue. If you hit the limit you'll notice it straight away. On Twiends.com you'll get repeated messages saying you can't follow the person you're trying to follow. At that point you'll need to grow your own followers before you can follow more people.
Moral of the story, grow your followers and friends at the same time to avoid follow limits..
