Hi Everyone! We've been a bit quiet the past month and a half, ramping up for 2024. We've decided to jump in with a little (ok, not so little) 2023 recap, to highlight a few key Ombraz accomplishments from last year.
Ok, here goes.
Despite global economic slowdowns, we experienced solid growth in 2023. A large part of that success comes from: A.) Having created a product that people truly appreciate. B.) Our fully remote, 15-person team is highly organized and dialed in, and the the brand vision and strategy are acutely understood across the organization.
Nikolai and I have spent the last few years assembling experienced team members who drive truly exceptional value in their own business segments.

Here are a few key 2023 highlights:

In Summer 2023, we hosted a Video Review Competition - over 200 people entered. Each review hit an emotional soft spot for us. It was incredibly rewarding to see everyone expressing their genuine fondness for what we are building. Here was the winner - Ian received $1,000 cash and a lifetime supply of Ombraz - his video struck an emotional cord (that's a pun) with us that we just couldn't let go. It got us all teary-eyed.
The runner-up entry was also legendary. Sarah, from Washington, somehow embraced the hobby of strapping herself to the wing of a bi-plane? Needless to say, we're going to be running the competition again this year.
Luke Shepardson, winner of the most famous Big Wave Surf Competition on earth, The Eddie Aikau, wore Ombraz in his 2023 victory feature in GQ Magazine.
We built a super realistic Virtual Try-On for Ombraz.com with our 3D engineer, David, who built Gollum for Lord of the Rings. No Joke. Our virtual try-on is super dialed and it's really helped our return/exchange rates plummet.
38% of new customers are purchasing Ombraz with Side Shields, which is absolutely wild. Available for every frame style, ventilated, removable and malleable, people seem to love them. A revamped side shield case now comes with each set of side shields.
In Fall 2023, a third-party carbon measurement firm in Chile completed a comprehensive carbon audit of our business operations. They calculated that through our tree planting initiatives, each pair of Ombraz is 1,714X carbon-negative - confirming that a pair of Ombraz is the most carbon-negative product sold on the planet. We'll be sharing more on that soon.
Last year, Nikolai spearheaded Ombraz retail expansion - we designed a beautiful, dynamic, store display and began onboarding with specialty outdoor shops across the Mountain West. Our goal is to be in 75 specialty outdoor shops by the end of 2024.
