Although started in secret, the massive spying powers granted to the National Counterterrorism Center include access to any U.S. government database in order to analyze that stored info for suspicious patterns of behavior or for terrorism indicators. Data on innocent Americans can be collected and stored for five years, just in case you might commit future crimes.
