Darlene Storm: Visual malware remotely exploits Android camera, secretly snaps pic every 2 seconds
Visual malware that remotely exploits smartphone cameras to secretly snap photos every two seconds was tested on Android phones running Gingerbread. After covertly tapping into the phone's camera to capture photos, the malicious Android app uploads the shots to a command and control server. The pictures are stitched together to recreate 3D images of the victim's surroundings in order to steal financial data or any sensitive information in view. PlaceRaider is a new type of sensory malware. This new "threat to the privacy and physical security of smartphone users" was dubbed "virtual theft." Read More
