Darlene Storm: Visual malware remotely exploits Android camera, secretly snaps pic every 2 seconds

Visual malware that remotely exploits smartphone cameras to secretly snap
photos every two seconds was tested on Android phones running Gingerbread. After
covertly tapping into the phone's camera to capture photos,
the malicious Android app uploads the shots to a command and
control server. The pictures are stitched together to recreate 3D images of the
victim's surroundings in order to steal financial data or any sensitive
information in view. PlaceRaider is a new type of sensory malware.
This new "threat to the privacy and physical security of smartphone
users" was dubbed "virtual theft."
