VPN bypass vulnerability affects Android Jelly Bean and KitKat
A vulnerability in Android allows malicious applications to bypass an active VPN
(virtual private network) connection and force traffic from the device through
an attacker-controlled system where it can be intercepted, according to security

Evan Schuman: App testing and sins of omission
Starbucks released a mobile app that stored passwords in clear text. There's a
good chance that a lot of other companies just don't know whether they could
find themselves in the same situation.

Robert L. Mitchell: Why there was no privacy in death
Almost every day it seems there's another revelation about what marketers,
social media, or the government know about people's lives. But the most shocking
development of late came last week with the news that OfficeMax had sent a bulk
mailing to the family of a recently deceased teenager, addressing it to "Mike
Seay/Daughter Killed in Car Crash/Or Current Business."

Preston Gralla: One benefit of Windows Phone: The NSA may not be snooping on you
If you own a Windows Phone, the NSA may not bother to snoop on you, even as the
intelligence agency gathers vast amounts of information from apps leaking from
iOS and Android phones. In all of the revelations about the NSA and its British
counterpart collecting data leaking from phone apps, not a single mention has
been made of snooping on Windows Phones.
