Talk Nerdy to Me
I've got mixed feelings about Halloween. On the upside, it involves kids (and pets) in adorable costumes and implicit permission to eat lots of candy. The downside is that Thanksgiving and Christmas follow close on its heels. By the time Halloween rolls around, I feel like I'm already behind the holiday eight ball. This week I put together a collection of free downloads to take my mind off the impending holidays, including a freakish zombie-Jack-o-lantern wallpaper, several macabre fonts, a PCWorld exclusive Windows 7 themes devoted to Dia de los Muertes--the festive Mexican Day of the Dead celebrated throughout the Americas--and much more. Also this week I've dug up a Halloween special from 2010 that shows you how to make your own Jack-o-lantern PC.

It's that time of the year again, when days get short, nights get long, and Christmas seems just over the horizon. Perhaps Halloween is Nature's way of slowing the inevitable slide to the holidays. And if you're busily hanging up paper ghosts and spider webs, don't neglect your computer: We've got several free wallpapers and desktop themes to choose from, including a festive Day of the Dead theme and mutant zombie-jack-o-lantern wallpaper.
