Garage Grown Gear has been a solid partner of ours for over 4 years now. Their team curates and sells ultra-light outdoor gear built by small, cottage brands via their online shop, only selling gear that they themselves use and love. To celebrate smaller grassroot outdoor brands, we joined their annual Cottage Giveaway. This year's contest includes $10,000 in gear from over 50 small-scale brands. The contest is live now through November 8th. | | Being Garage Grown, well, Barn Grown ourselves - we figured this might be a nice time to give you a little Ombraz-brand-start-up backstory. Based out of Seattle, Nikolai and I launched Ombraz armless concept on Indiegogo in Spring 2018. You should watch our crowdfunding video. Guy Raz (from NPR's 'How I Built This') said it's the best crowdfunding launch video he's ever seen. ;) | | During the 30 days of our launch campaign, we amassed 1,400 preorders across all seven continents, 54 countries, and all 50 US states. This preorder push enabled us to fund the first-ever run of armless sunglasses. Our two-man team, with the help of family and friends, built the first 3,000 pairs in Ombraz World HQ, located in the second-story loft of my 106-year-old Grandma's barn, on her 3-acre farm just outside of Seattle, complete with a zipline out the window. It took us almost 2.5 months, working 12-16 hour days, to finish our first handmade assembly run. | | Five years later, our team is made up of 12 amazing humans, we've planted over 1.3 million trees, sold over 70,000 pairs, revamped our product two times over, launched 4-new styles (three more are on the way) and dialed in side shields for every frame in our armless collection. Next year, we're making a big push into retail, which will help more people discover the armless concept. We absolutely love building this brand - we're having a blast - and we intend for that to permeate through our products, our content, and the way we treat our customers and team members as we continue to grow.
