In your dreams: Nokia prices Ozo immersive video camera at $60,000

Sixty thousand dollars, and the first quarter next year: those were the details missing at Nokia's July unveiling of the Ozo 360-degree video camera.Nokia calls the Ozo a virtual reality camera, but this is something of a misnomer: If you're shooting video, there's nothing virtual about the reality depicted, and what you're recording is immersive video. The Ozo has a spherical field of view, with eight 2K-by-2K image sensors and eight microphones that record direct to a proprietary flash storage device. Its 500GB capacity is enough to store 45 minutes of video and audio, according to Nokia. The flash storage costs US$2,500.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE

Koh, head of mobile research and development, as the new chief of the company's mobile communications business. The move follows some setbacks in Samsung's mobile business during the tenure of the former head J.K. Mozilla identifying home for Thunderbird as it focuses on Firefox

To better focus on Firefox and its other products, the Mozilla Foundation decided in 2012 to address the on-going stability of the open-source Thunderbird email client rather than new development, which was passed on to volunteer developers. The rationale for the decision was that in view of the growing popularity of Web-based alternative forms of communications, Thunderbird was not likely to be a source of innovation and was seen more or less as a settled product with a basic set of features that users were happy with."Once again we’ve been asking the question: is Thunderbird a likely source of innovation and of leadership in today’s Internet life? Or is Thunderbird already pretty much what its users want and mostly needs some on-going maintenance?" wrote foundation chair Mitchell Baker in 2012.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here READ MORE
