In many ways, automation is part of the natural progression that was set in motion at the dawn of the Industrial Age, and it has only increased in speed and scope. The consequences are huge and far-reaching. Interestingly, the imminent problem is not that automation will make human workers irrelevant, but that the types of jobs available will likely change rapidly. This will be just as true in the digital workforce as in other aspects of the economy. The upside is that automation will free us from many of the manual, error-prone tasks we dislike so much and allow us to focus on the things that matter.
