Learn more Mozilla defers Firefox's new 'Australis' UI to April Mozilla last week said that the earliest its new "Australis" user interface will appear in Firefox is at the end of April, six weeks later than the company previously projected. Read More Mobile users at risk from lack of HTTPS use by mobile ad libraries Over the past several months security researchers have found serious vulnerabilities in many mobile advertising libraries that could be exploited to abuse the permissions of Android apps or to execute unauthorized code on users' devices. The risks resulting from those vulnerabilities would be significantly lower if those libraries would use HTTPS, security researchers said. Read More Richi Jennings: On a fast break, Yahoo throws a curveball Rosy cheeked bloggers are giggling about supposed rumors from Yahoo insiders that the company intends to change the way it does search. Currently Yahoo uses Microsoft's Bing search technology, but notes passed around the classroom read that Yahoo fully intends to use its own in the near future. Good rumors always spawn more questions: Is Yahoo in puppy love with its own search engine, or simply playing games to increase Microsoft's affection? Read More Darlene Storm: Hacker steals teacher's direct deposit paycheck: University says too bad so sad If you fell for a phishing scam and hackers were able to access your account and reroute your direct deposit paycheck to their bank account, is that just tough luck and you can kiss your stolen money bye-bye? When it happened to a teacher, Western Michigan University said it "will not reimburse him for the amount that was stolen." Read More Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols: Told you so! Microsoft backs off on Metro Microsoft appears to be backing off on its biggest user interface fiasco since Microsoft Bob: In the Windows 8.1 update, the desktop rather than Metro reportedly will be the default interface. Read More Richi Jennings: Mobile users are mad about Flappy Bird Flappy Bird is crazy fun. Slow walking people. Calling customer service and put on hold, then being disconnected after a long wait. These are just a small sample of frustrations experienced by everyone. Bloggers, being easily bored, have recently added a mobile game called Flappy Bird to this catalog. Topping the popularity charts in the App Store, the Schadenfreudian wonder was crafted in retro-loving style by a Vietnamese app developer named Dong Nguyen. Not much is known about Mr. Nguyen or his game studio, but Flappy Bird is infamous for being frustrating and addictive at the same time -- a recipe for success that also frustrates the bloggers trying to understand it.
