A new study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found that how well you perform on a cardiac stress test may be a better predictor of mortality risk than traditional health markers like high cholesterol or hypertension. Researchers analyzed data from over 27,000 patients and found that those with poor exercise tolerance had significantly higher mortality risks—regardless of other health conditions. So what does that mean for you? It means training your heart to handle exertion is one of the best things you can do for longevity. The good news? You don’t need extreme endurance workouts to get there. Here's how to build heart endurance: Check out our guide for building muscle safely, with tips for men and women on Zone 2, VO2 Max, progressive overload, and more. ![]() ![]() Why ‘Normal’ B12 Levels Might Not Be Enough Vitamin B12 is critical for brain health, but new research published in the Annals of Neurology suggests that even people with "normal" levels of B12 may not be getting enough to prevent cognitive decline. The study found that older adults with B12 levels in the lower range of normal had signs of central nervous system injury, including reduced brain volume and impaired neurological function. B12 plays a crucial role in myelin production, the protective sheath around nerves that supports cognitive function. Deficiency has been linked to memory loss, brain fog, and even early dementia. The best way to increase B12 is to eat red meat, fish, poultry, and eggs; fortified foods, nutritional yeast, and tempeh if you’re a vegetarian; and keep your digestive system healthy with fiber and fermented foods. Boost your B12 intake with foods like clams, sardines, eggs, and nutritional yeast. Researchers from Perdue University say indoor air can actually be more polluted than outdoor air due to the accumulation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from everyday products. Scented candles, air fresheners, and household cleaning products release nanoscale particles that linger in the air and can penetrate deep into the lungs—raising concerns about respiratory health and long-term exposure. While ventilation helps, the most effective way to reduce exposure is to eliminate synthetic fragrance sources and invest in air purification.

They also found that focus and sustained attention gains were the equivalent of reversing 10 years of age-related cognitive decline. Plus, a whopping 91% of people in the study improved on at least one mental health measure. Without the pull of the apps on their phones, people naturally spent more time socializing in person, exercising, and being outdoors. These shifts in behavior only partially explained the improvements in well-being, because some benefits persisted even after internet access was restored. This research proves what we all know: constant connectivity keeps your brain overstimulated, impairing cognitive flexibility and mental clarity. Will you try a mobile digital detox? For the study, they used an app called Freedom that blocks apps and websites to help you take back control of screen time. Setting daily limits or taking one screen-free day per week can still deliver significant benefits for mental clarity and well-being. ![]() Ready to take control of your health?
